I Samuel 5:1-12
The account in this passage reveals God’s omnipotence (unlimited power) over all dominions, gods, rulers and kingdoms. Dagon – the god of Ashdod, had to bow when it came in contact with the ark of the Lord, which represented the presence of God in the Old Testament. The destruction caused by the ark in Ashdod was so bad that the people of Ashdod volunteered to take it back to Israel where it rightfully belonged.
God is unchangeable, therefore, He remains ‘all powerful,’ and every other god bows before His presence. This means that as a believer who has the Spirit of God (presence of God) resident in you, you ought to be fearless against the things (gods) that are up against you, because the Greater One lives in you.
These things (gods) could present themselves as emotional turmoil, physical challenges, psychological warfare, financial hardship, spiritual problems, etc. However, as a New Testament believer, God has given you the authority to use His power to defeat these things. The question is, “do you know the authority you have? And are you going to make full use of it?”
Knowing the import of the power available to you, makes you face situations from a standpoint of victory – fearlessly. The truth is, you are not meant to be a victim of circumstances, but a commander who takes charge of circumstances. So arise with the double edged sword (Word of God) in your mouth and start commanding those things that threaten your existence to bow before you. They can’t withstand the God you carry!
