WIVES SUBMIT TO YOUR OWN HUSBANDS

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. – Colossians 3:18

As a wife, God does not expect you to submit to every man you see, but to your own husband, and that, as it is fitting in the Lord. That is, you do it in honor to God…and it is pleasing to Him. In the military, a Captain must submit to a General, irrespective of whether he is more educated, more exposed or older than the General. He is not submitting to the person, but to the office the General occupies.

Likewise, you (as a wife) may be more intelligent than your husband, richer and more exposed; however, you don’t submit to him because of his abilities, but for whom God has made him – your husband. What matters, is not your outward accolades but your inner attitude – one of submission. Yes, you are equal in the grace of life, but for the administration and running of the home, he is your head, and you should submit to him. There cannot be two heads in the home.

Be reminded that you are in your husband’s life as a “helper not a burden.” Proverbs says, “He who finds a wife, finds A GOOD THING…” God expects you to be a ‘good thing’ to your husband in every sense of the word. So, treat your husband as the ‘man,’ speak to the king in him, compliment, adore and respect him. Remember, a woman with discretion manages her home well.

There is no need respecting your Pastor, or your Boss in the office, if you will not respect your husband at home. You might say, “Pastor my husband is a hard nut to crack.” Well, who knows whether by your good conduct, you can win him to the Lord? Do your part; don’t respond based on his attitude, but respond with love and a Christ-like spirit. Remember also that you are modeling your good conduct for your children.

My advice to single ladies: Be mindful in choosing the man you marry. You are required of God to submit to him, so make sure he’s a man you can readily submit to.
