Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:25
REFERENCE
Hebrews 10:24-25
Man is a spirit, he possesses a soul and lives in a body. This means, man is a spiritual as well as a social being. So as man feeds his spirit, he also needs to meet his social needs, which is where as a believer, the place of fellowshipping with others comes in.
Fellowship simply means companionship. It is a friendly association of people.
No man is an island and God has not called us to go it alone in this Christian race. These are the last days, and various lusts and temptations are drawing men away from their commitment to God, as Paul foretold in II Timothy 3:1-5. So, more than ever, today’s Christian needs encouragement and support from Christian companions in order to stay the course.
Acts 4:23 records that the apostles returned to their ‘own group’ after facing persecution from the Jewish leaders for ‘refilling.’ Every Christian should have and belong in his/her own company of believers, because it takes iron to sharpen iron. Such an association can be likened to a bunch of broom which cannot be easily broken, as against a broomstick.
The enemy always looks for that stand-alone Christian that he can easily devour, just like lions always seek to attack any lone animal straying from the pack.
