A SHOOT OUT OF A DRY GROUND

For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground – Isaiah 53:2

This Scripture speaks of Jesus, who though from a royal lineage, the tribe of Judah, was born into an impoverished family on earth. Considering that he was from the line of King David, He should have been born into wealth and prestige; but He came on the scene as a mere carpenter’s son.

There are times in our lives when all we have are the memories of how good things were in the past; and so, we long for the good old days. We yearn and cry out for the days that are gone, wishing we can have them again; we relive past glories in our minds and wonder why those days were better. But King Solomon said that we do not inquire wisely anytime we ask conclusively, ‘Why are the former days better than now?’ I believe he said that because he knew that a shoot can still grow out of a dry ground. Besides, whoever is joined to the living God has hope to sprout again even after they have been cut off from where they were once established (Job: 14:7).

Cactus plants paint this picture so well. They sometimes stand out as the only green thing in a hot, brown and sandy desert. Although there is rarely water around them to sustain them, they store enough water within to sustain themselves. Do you know you have enough in you to blossom even in a dry place? Yes, the Spirit of God is within you – He is the Spirit of a Champion.

One Yoruba (a West African tribe) adage says, “The ‘white’ maize-meal pap comes from the ‘black’ pot.” This means all hope is not lost; God can still pick up the broken pieces of your life and make something beautiful out of it. He can bring beauty out of ashes. He can cause you to go from obscurity to notability.

Although Jesus was born in a manger to an unknown virgin and a poor carpenter, He went from there to become the Desire of Nations, the Savior of the world, and earned Himself the highest and the most popular name. Kings sought to be around Him and the great called Him ‘Great.’ Right now, He is highly exalted and is seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly places.

Therefore, this is not the end of your story; there is yet hope for you. Your best days and best testimonies are still ahead of you. You will be a reference point, and the blessed will call you ‘blessed.’ Your destiny will not be a victim of your history; YOU SHALL RISE in Jesus’ name!
