For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

To survive in this earth realm like we saw earlier in this series, you must learn to be a fighter and not a quitter. You must learn to dig your heels in the ground and defend your territory because life will always throw battles at you. You represent a sum total of all the battles you have fought in life. There are battle scars that remind you of certain defeats, and some trophies that remind you of victories – in marriage, career, finances, parenting, academics, health, family, in business and in relationships.
Since you are not exempt from the battles of life, how do you fight to win? Below are some proven ways:
- Prayer – prayer brings God on the scene. It renews your strength and commissions the angelic host to act on your behalf. James 4:2 says, “You have not because you ask not.” Thus, prayer is very vital. Our battles are often spiritual. Prayer releases the grace of God into your situation. It tells God that you recognize there is a spiritual dimension to what you are facing and are ready to deal with it spiritually. It also shows your reliance on God (II Corinthians 10:3-4, Matthew 11:28).
- Practicing the Word – doing the Word invokes a blessing. It is sometimes the fastest track to get God to do something for you. This is going beyond your feelings to seeking and doing what God’s Word expects you to do in the tough situation. When you seek God for answers and He tells you what to do, promptly do what He tells you because it is the doers of the Word that are blessed (James 1:22-25).
- Walking in Love – the easiest way for Satan to defeat you is to get you out of walking in love or to abide in hate, bitterness, malice, unforgiveness, etc., towards others. Don’t be quick to take or give offence. I always say my heart will not be a soil for Satan to sow negative seeds in; a heart that abides in bitterness and unforgiveness is a fertile soil for Satan’s seeds. Love is a mighty weapon against the enemy; turn it on at all times (Galatians 5:22-23, James 3:16).
- Confessing the Word – the Word is the ultimate weapon. Confess the Word and speak it over the challenging situations in your life. The worlds were framed by the word of God. The battles you face represent facts of life, but the Word of God is the supreme truth that everything aligns with. It is one weapon that the devil has no antidote for. The Word is like a double-edged sword that you can wield to destroy the enemy; it is the carrier of God’s power and it is miraculous by nature (Isaiah 55:11, Hebrews 4:12 & 11:3).
