There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham… Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. Genesis 26:1&12

World trends and Government’s predictions suggest that the economy may not particularly improve and inflation may rise, making things tougher. But this shouldn’t surprise us because ‘there is nothing new under the sun.’ In times past, people experienced economic downturns as seen from today’s account, but we serve a God who is unchanging in nature. We can thus trust Him to replicate for us, what He did for Isaac, should we find ourselves in an economic downturn.
Isaac must have been traumatized during the famine because his source of income as a farmer, must have been threatened. Humanly speaking, it was a hopeless situation for him. In his despair, Isaac decided to leave the land, but for God’s intervention. When God told him to stay in the land of famine, it wouldn’t have made sense, but he obeyed foolishly and it resulted in his prosperity (fruitfulness).
It is important to note that God did not hold back the famine in Isaac’s day, but He gave him an instruction that disregarded the famine and produced results for him. So, regardless of how tough things are presently or might become in the future, God has a way of blessing you beyond the curse. He knows how to make you thrive in adversity and He knows what to do to make you fruitful in famine. Let not your heart be troubled, your help is not from around but from above. God doesn’t need the economy to bless you.
Just like He did for Isaac, God is willing to lead and guide you; He knows where you should turn, who to meet, where to be, what to give, where not to go, what to do, etc., for you to have a meaningful, prosperous and fulfilled life this year. However, you must be willing to tune your ears to His frequency of broadcasting; you need to operate on a different set of principles other than the principles the world operates by. Isaac prospered by a higher set of principles from a higher place. We shall examine those principles more closely in the next episode.

My heart is firmly placed in the Lord; therefore, I shall not be afraid of tough times. God’s blessings supersede every lack in the economies of the world; with His blessings, I boldly declare that I am exempt from economic downturns. In famine I shall be fruitful in Jesus’ name.
