In Mark 5: 22 – 43, the Bible tells us the story of a man desperate for a miracle for his daughter who was at the point of death. His name was Jairus and he was one of the rulers of the synagogue.
Prominent people like Jairus could not afford to be seen publicly with Jesus (remember Nicodemus who saw Jesus by night), but he could not deny the fact that Jesus had the solution to his problem and so he humbled himself and came to ask for help.
Fortunately, Jesus agreed to go with him and heal his daughter, but unfortunately, Jesus also decided to give attention to a woman who got healed by touching the hem of his clothes.Imagine the thoughts that would have been running through Jairus mind.
Impatience with Jesus and annoyance at the healed woman who delayed Jesus from giving him the help he came for. Could he have felt that Jesus didn’t care, or that Jesus didn’t understand the urgency of his situation? What else did he feel when the woman received her healing? Was he happy for her or envious?
A few things we can learn from Jairus on his journey so far is: He was not too proud to seek help from Jesus when he needed it. No matter where you are in your relationship with God, take that problem to Him in humility. 1 Pet. 5:6He was ready to follow Jesus at His pace. Even when Jesus was interrupted, he didn’t throw a tantrum, insult the other woman or display his impatience.
In simple trust, Jairus followed Jesus at His pace until he received his miracle. In 1 Pet. 5:6, we are told He will lift us up in due time.He did not abandon Jesus when He turned His attention to someone else. He waited for Him. Even when it seems God is answering other people’s prayers and not yours, keep your attention on Him. Let His response to others encourage you; If He did theirs, He will do yours too.
