“…and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” – 1 Peter 3:7b
REFERENCE:
Peter here admonishes husbands to be careful and thoughtful of the needs of their wives while honoring them as the weaker sex and partners in receiving God’s blessings. When husbands withhold this honor from their wives, their prayers are sabotaged. This is a roadblock to answers in prayers. Hence, not handling relationships well can become a roadblock to prayers. Let us see more roadblocks that truncate our supplications:
o Domestic Discord: If your marriage is not a priority, your prayers will not be a priority to God because marriage reflects the unity in the Trinity. You cannot neglect it and expect God to be excited. If you mistreat each other, you weaken the power in your oneness, and your prayers (especially of agreement) will not be effective. No wonder the devil attacks many homes.
Quickly reconcile when there is strife and disagreement. Create an atmosphere of love, friendship, and unity in your home; keep your marriage bed undefiled, as adultery invokes God’s displeasure on your home.
o Sinful Stains: Sin and living a deliberately sinful life are barriers to our fellowship with God. If you insist on living in rebellion against God, you make yourself obnoxious to Him; God’s eyes are too pure to behold iniquity. The prayers of those who sin habitually or, who harbor unconfessed sins, are an abomination to God. Sin separates us from God.
So, confess and forsake sin so that God will hear you and prosper you.
o Loveless Living: Bad relationships with those around you, living in conflict, and not pursuing peace with your brothers and neighbors result in unanswered prayers. An attitude devoid of the fruit of the Spirit grieves God, and is offensive to people, who often are God’s instruments for answering your prayers.
“Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are My disciples.” ~ Jesus Christ.
Deal with these roadblocks because, to pray and expect God to answer while living in sin and disobedience is witchcraft. You cannot keep malice despite the Holy Spirit’s prompting to not, and expect answers to your prayers. Do you desire an effective prayer life? Take sin out, and then God will answer before you call to Him; your prayer life will be revolutionized, and you will receive answers like never before.

CONFESSION
Lord, sprinkle me with the cleansing blood and I shall be clean again. Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Create in me a new and clean heart, O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires. Do not toss me aside, do not banish me forever from Your presence, do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me again the joy of Your salvation, and make me willing to obey You. Then I will pray and You will hear, I will seek You and find You, I will call and You will answer.
I thank God for the Roadblocks to prayers series. It hasn’t just been a guide against unanswered prayers but a searchlight and a guide towards holy living. It creates moments of quiet contemplation of Psalm 139:23, Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Praise God for the entrance of His Word that brings light. Everything that stands in the way is exposed by the light of His Word. I walk in agreement with the Word and I have unfettered access to my Father!
Amen
