“All the believers were of one heart and mind, and no one felt that what he owned was his own; everyone was sharing.” – Acts 4:32 (TLB)
REFERENCE: Acts 4:32-35 (TLB)
As the world goes through uncertain economic times, the church must become a place of hope and help for all, especially believers. She must become an oasis of support and supply by practicing biblical truths so that the people of God will prosper through famine and not be a reproach in the world.
God’s people have all of God’s possessions to meet all of God’s needs. The believers in Acts proved this truth. A bunch of them had stuff, so much that they could share with others until none had a need. The way the church would be an oasis in uncertain times like this is for its members to become selfless, ready to share and give to those in need. Have you wondered why you have access to a little more than you need, that it may just be for such a time as this? Wealth is not just to build houses, buy cars, or live large, but to be a blessing to many. There is someone around you that you fare better than; they can not pay house rent, school fees for their children, medical bills, etc. They represent the call of God to you to rise above selfishness.
It takes selflessness to support others generously. Philippians 2:4 says, “Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.” God gave you what you have and put portions for others there too. Reach out to someone in need around you, especially those of the household of faith, and extend the love of God to them.
Selflessness was the power of the early church: sharing what they had with other believers and looking out for one another released great grace upon them. It was so effective that none lacked amongst them; they made it through the economic crunch. In addition, signs and wonders were a constant in their gatherings resulting from unselfish love, for there is no law against love. Where love abounds in generosity, the power of God freely flows.
Let the love of God flow from you to someone today. May God prosper all your works and make you a pillar of support to many. May your selflessness lead to prosperity, in Jesus’ name.
