“For we who have believed do enter that rest…” ~ Hebrews 4:3a

REFERENCE:

Hebrews 4:1-3

The writer of Hebrews highlights today’s truth from Old Testament Israel. God delivered them from Egypt, took them through the wilderness, and finally gave them rest in the land of Canaan. The sad truth, however, is that many Israelites died in the wilderness, and never made it to the Promised Land of rest. These ones failed to believe in God, despite His many miracles.

We serve a God who is the giver of peace and rest. He brought rest to a stormy situation by commanding the waves of the sea to be still. Actually, He was at rest and asleep in the midst of the storm because there was a word to ‘cross over to the other side.’ Assured in the potency of that word, He was at peace and went to sleep. Amidst the storms and uncertainties of our world, rest (real, deep, and calming) comes by believing what God says (His unfailing Word).

When a word of promise or prophecy comes from God, even in the midst of our personal storms, a calm assurance fills the heart if we will take that word and commit it to heart, leaning all of our person and trust on it. Believing makes the difference. I may not have money in my pocket, but because I have heard in my spirit and believe that “My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus,” I remain at rest.

Hannah went to church crying, but entered her rest when she believed Eli’s prophecy that all was well. The confusion and perplexity of Mary ended because she believed what God said and was at peace with carrying a pregnancy her fiancé had nothing to do with. Joseph also had peace after an angel spoke to him about the child. The nobleman who came to Jesus to beg for his sick child could return home without any physical evidence because he was assured and at rest because he believed Jesus when He said, “Go your way; you son lives.”

You may be agitated by the current affairs – bad news, skyrocketing inflation, an unnatural quest for unjust gain amongst men, increased wickedness, etc. I charge you to labor to believe God’s report above what you hear on the news or on social media. This is not the time to joke with the prophetic word, preaching, or most especially, God’s revealed truth from the Bible (Rhema). He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” “I will carry you till your old age.” “Young lions may suffer hunger, but those who trust the Lord will lack no good thing.” “I will keep you from the arrows that fly by day.” Do you believe these? May your faith produce rest, and may your rest lead to the fulfillment of what you have believed, in Jesus’ name.
