Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” – John 6:7
REFERENCE:
Jesus found Himself where we often find ourselves, a position where what we have is inadequate to answer what we need. A multitude had gathered to Him and needed food. Jesus and His team were far from town, in a desert place with little money. Does this sound familiar? However, Jesus knew what He would do to find sufficient supply.
Jesus knew that God was El-Shaddai, ‘the all-sufficient God.’ When He asked Philip where they would buy bread sufficient for the crowd, He was testing if he knew God to be all-sufficient. Limited by his pocket and environment, Philip failed the test. His circumstances blinded Him to the possibility and sufficiency that existed in God. He thought, “Many mouths to feed, not enough bread, nowhere to buy bread, and insufficient funds to make the purchase.”
Phillip’s reply was that their best effort would only make “everyone get a little bit of bread.” As long as his mind was satisfied with the people eating little, he did not see the need to look up to God. Likewise, when we make small plans, we risk ignoring God and thinking that what will help us is proper management and distribution of our resources; material, financial and human. God is bigger than your pocket and circumstances. God is sufficient; He can do the impossible.
Why would Philip think that all Jesus wanted the people to eat was ‘little’ food? God is a God of prosperity, abundance, and more than enough. By thinking ‘little,’ we limit Him. Hence, when Jesus (who knows the mind of God) asked they be given food, He had abundance and basketful leftovers in mind. While Philip looked at his pocket, Jesus looked to the sufficient God, knowing that such provisions only come from Him, not men. Man can only give you according to his ability or his pocket size. He often gives according to his stinginess (or generosity), how much he likes you, or if he can later benefit from you.
As we draw to the close of the year and head into a new one, do not limit God to your salary, pocket, friends, business, or condition. Let your mind capture Him as the sufficient God whose supply keeps running on, never running out. Think and plan like God and with God in mind. There will be times when you have meager resources but a multitude to feed. Do not despair, be thankful, look up and pray. God is sufficient; when He is through, you will have leftovers.

+ Ask God for mercy where you have limited Him with regard to meeting your needs.
+ Cast down small-mindedness in your thinking and planning, and declare boldly that your needs are abundantly supplied by El-Shaddai.
Lord, have mercy on me for limiting You in my thoughts and with my small-minded plans, and for doubting Your all-sufficiency. I declare boldly that ALL my needs are abundantly met, even with leftovers in Jesus name, Amen!
Lord You are limitless, there is nothing You cannot do. May I not limit You by the smallness of my vision. Amen
