DAVID’S DIRTY DEED: RESPECT BOUNDARIES

“So, David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”. ~ II Samuel 11:3

God has given us freedom in Christ. He made us free-moral agents to choose and do what we consider to serve our purpose. We have the freedom of expression, acquisition, and association. However, your freedom stops wherever it infringes on another person’s rights or stops them from enjoying their freedom. Although we are free, we must respect boundaries.

Freedom without boundaries is hazardous. Suppose you can do whatever you want whenever you want just because you can without anyone questioning you or holding you to account, you would soon cross a point of no return and sabotage your life and destiny. God gave us freedom, but there are boundaries in the world; it is God’s way. There are ‘no-go’ areas we must respect.

David had risen to the office of a king. He had grown with God and saw His blessings in unusual ways – wealth, victories, the love of His people, and greatness. He must have thought as a king, “I am entitled to an extra-marital’ pleasure.’ I am king, no one can deny my requests.” From his rooftop, David saw Bathsheba taking a bath and overtaken by lust, he inquired about her, and they told him she was another man’s wife – that is a red flag, but it didn’t stop David.

David did not heed the warning that she was another man’s wife. Marriage was a boundary wall erected to keep a man away from the married, and vice versa. When confronted with that boundary, David disregarded it. Such action results from a deceived mind – “I deserve it. Nobody will know. You have worked hard, relax. God wouldn’t mind. God can’t throw me in hell for just this, etc.” If we are not careful, we will see red flags (boundary walls) yet, go ahead.

God sets boundaries around us so that freedom does not destroy us. The tree in the middle of Eden figuratively told Adam, “You are free to eat whatever you want, but there is a boundary; don’t eat the fruit of this tree.” Boundaries remind us there is a God who commands and deserves our obedience; we must all give an account to Him. You can’t have or do anything you want at any time, lest you hurt yourself. Some things are ‘no-go areas,’ belonging to someone else. So, please be sure to respect boundaries and keep yourself from trouble.

+ Lord, may I not cross the boundary lines that You have set to keep me safe and secure in You.

+ Protect and deliver me, Lord, from the spirit of delusion or deception that tells me I can get away with just any and everything.

+ I will avoid every trap of the devil because I will always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
