“Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So, all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.” ~ I Kings 18:30
REFERENCE:
Israel endured three years of no rain, putting the nation in dire economic straits and desperation. Rain symbolizes the earth’s nourishment, refreshing, cleansing, renewal, and fruitfulness. The absence of rain in the land was a bad omen for the people because they were a farming society; rain for them is life, and the lack of it is death – of farm produce and livestock.
Have you ever wondered at the desperation of our times, the desolations in the lives of many Christians? Marriages are breaking down; sicknesses ravage believers, miscarriages and barrenness; bad habits helplessly bind church folks, and many followers of Christ cannot even make ends meet and are oppressed and harassed by Satan.
These maladies show that we lack the rain of the Spirit, and there is a spiritual drought. Until rain falls, things will remain dead, and barrenness will stay until there are showers of blessings. The rain had to fall for Israel to experience an economic turnaround, and Elijah took responsibility for it. He repaired the altar, and then, rain fell. He made Israel see that the lack of rain was linked to the ruined altar. They had forsaken God and His altar and followed other gods.
An altar is a gateway between heaven and earth, a place of worship, sacrifice, and offerings; at the altar, divinity and humanity shake hands. All these happen in the place of prayer. A broken-down prayer altar spells doom for a believer. When the prayer altar breaks down, everything breaks down; the heavens are closed, and a door to temptations opens.
You need to repair your altar of prayer. If you are too busy to pray, you will be too busy to have the power to overcome. Satan trembles when the weakest Christian gets on his knees because prayer is man’s weakness leaning on Omnipotence; it is finite man partnering with the infinite God. It is God taking over man’s battles and giving him uncommon victories.
The state of your prayer altar may be connected to your present trials. Repair it for rain to fall.
