“And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” ~ Matthew 8:7
REFERENCE:
As we conclude ‘The Sufferer, the Suppliant, and the Savior,’ the episode’s hero captures our attention—Jesus, the Savior with a kind heart. Imagine a situation where there is suffering and supplications but no Savior; imagine having an illness and the financial means to secure healing, but there is no doctor or known cure for the infirmity. Thank God for our Savior.
Who is this Jewish carpenter that a Roman centurion will become a humble supplicant before Him? Who is this Savior that was implored to come and heal a man paralyzed and dreadfully tormented? He is the Son of God, the Bright and morning star, and the king of kings. He is the avenger of God’s elect, the ruler of the dominions of the earth, and the great balm of Gilead. He is the bread of life and the messenger with the beautiful feet. He is Emmanuel – God with us.
Despite His illustrious résumé, when the centurion asked Him, Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” The beauty of this story is that Jesus would come into the house of a Gentile and heal not his wife, son, or daughter but his servant. He is a Savior with a kind heart; He loves all without discrimination and can heal all sicknesses without exception. He is all-knowing and powerful.
Our kind Savior is alive today and works among His people. If He would heal a Gentile’s slave, He would do much more for you. The challenge is that we often take Him for granted, forget He is with us, and rarely call Him until all else fails. This accounts for Jesus’ exclamation – “I have never seen such faith in Israel.” Why? Sadly, church people take Him for granted.
Do you know the Savior? Do you know Him in all His glory and offices? He is mighty, merciful, kind, loving, and good. He is ever willing and able to deliver those who call to Him in faith. If you know He is all the bible says He is, why don’t you call on Him before things get out of hand? Will you go to Him as a humble supplicant today and invite Him to come to your house, family, or office to handle that matter? I assure you that His answer will be, “I will come and sort it out.”
