“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” ~ John 5:19
When you decide to follow after God, you may be seen as a disruptor of the established order. Many of the prophets were seen as societal disruptors. They were accused of going against the grain; sometimes, it cost them their lives, but they are remembered as messengers of God.
Elijah was called the troubler of Israel, and Micaiah was hated because he did not prophesy good things to the king of Israel. Likewise, Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, was considered a false prophet because he prophesied that Israel would be taken into captivity.
Although Jesus came to fulfill the scriptures, the religious leaders of the day saw Him as a disruptor. They accused Him of being possessed by demons and breaking the law by healing on the Sabbath day. This never stopped Jesus from going to the Synagogue, preaching, and healing people.
If Jesus had bowed to pressure from the religious leaders who were more interested in preserving the institution of the law rather than showing mercy, which was the heart of God, this man’s hand would have remained withered, the man invalid for 38 years would have remained paralyzed and the woman who had been bent over for 18 years would not be healed.
Jesus said He did only what He saw the Father doing. He showed mercy. He healed the sick. He delivered those in bondage by the enemy. We should do the same. There are lives that God wants to affect positively through us. Still, we must courageously obey God and follow His instructions as Jesus did, regardless of what anyone thinks.
Commit to do what you see your heavenly Father do. Reach out to someone in your community or office who is a victim of injustice. Pray for the sick and those who are suffering instead of just making conversation about it. Commit to stand for the truth in your circle, even if no one agrees. Speak up against people dishonoring God’s name. Commit to being a positive disruptor.
