“He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.” ~ Psalm 147:10
REFERENCE:
Psalm 147:7-14
This is a powerful psalm declaring God’s praise and power. The psalmist reveals God as the One who covers the heavens with clouds, causes rain to fall, clothes the mountains with grass, and feeds all the beasts of the field and birds of the air. Indeed, God made all things, but He does not need them; they need Him. God doesn’t ride horses, although He made them.
Our text today suggests that God can do what He needs to do without recourse to any created thing, animal, or man. When He created in the beginning, He brought everything we see today out of ‘thin air.’ His faith and words were the raw materials He used to create the world. Hence, today, these are still His primary raw materials – faith in Him and His word.
Are you in a desperate situation, wondering how you will come out? The psalm says, “Praise the Lord.” Your God is mighty and powerful. He strengthens the bars of our gates, blesses children, gives peace, supplies us with the finest, and causes His word to run swiftly, performing His will. God’s track record is good. He does not need the legs of a man or the strength of a horse to do what He needs to do. He will show up for you in an amazing way. God doesn’t ride horses.
I was once in a desperate financial situation. All those who promised to help did not deliver—all of them. My heart was literally melting in my chest as I thought of the many things that would go wrong if they did not deliver on their promise. Then, one day in church, this psalm was read, and this verse jumped out at me, “He does not delight in the strength of a horse, nor takes pleasure in the legs of a man.” I felt like someone poured cold water on me. My heart revived.
That day, after service, someone walked up to me and said God told me to give you this money; it was the first and last time I saw them in church. I will never forget how God solved that problem. Since then, I concluded that God does not ride horses and can ignore men for His pleasure. Are you in a similar situation? Look to God; men and ‘horses’ may fail, but God has a joker you know nothing about. God will break through for you, too, in Jesus’ name.
