REINVENT YOU: FIXED AND FOCUSED

As you start the path to reinvention, one of the greatest fights you will have is the temptation to look at your past and think that what you had then is better than the changes you are presently making in your life. It will seem like you are making a mistake, but you must remember why you took the decision to reinvent yourself and stay focused because ultimately, that will be the wheels upon which you will ride to fulfill your dreams/goals.

You cheat yourself in the pursuit of your dreams if you have options and keep looking back. The Israelites who complained and relived their time in Egypt missed entering the land of Canaan. Don’t bear in mind that you can always return to what you were doing if you fail to reach your targets; that would likely divide your focus and keep you immobile, because no one who fixes his eyes on the rear mirror ever drives a car forward. So, stay with whatever you have discovered to be good at and resist the urge to change lanes.

There will always be other attractive things that will beg for your attention, but their agenda is to break your focus and when your focus is broken, you will veer off tangent and not get to your destination. Even the scriptures reveal that a man who is double minded is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8). Nothing stops you from continuously reinventing yourself after you have achieved a particular goal, but be focused on what you are doing per time and give it your all.

Speaking about our Savior Jesus Christ in Isaiah 50:7, Isaiah said, “…I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.” In other words, He was determined and focused on His assignment. In the same manner, you must stay determined and focused to see your dreams come true; don’t be distracted by running after everything. Write the vision (dream or goal) you are trying to accomplish and make it plain, so that each time you read it, you can run with it.

Do note however, that it will be unwise to continue focusing your energy on a moribund venture (dream) after you have done all you know to do. Luke 13:6-9 recommends a period of four years, after which you can discontinue with something that isn’t yielding fruit; and secularly, it is said that most startups don’t get to their break-even point till they are five years and above. Thus, if you have spent a lot of time pursuing a dream that doesn’t seem to be working, it may be time to reappraise your situation and go back to God to hear what He has to say about it.
