The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” John 5:7
REFERENCE
Painfully, this man had been ‘there’ for 38 years, yet he didn’t (and couldn’t) find ONE PERSON who paid enough attention to his situation to render him help. No surprise, this is simply because man is naturally selfish and largely driven by his own needs. Besides, it is unlikely that people help others when they are also in a helpless situation. The sick man said, “Before I get in…ANOTHER steps down before me.”
However, when Jesus came on the scene, things took a right turn for this sick man; thus, disproving the belief that ‘you must have a man to get ahead in life.’ Trusting in the arm of flesh brings disappointments because man has limitations; so, you must always look to God as the source of your Help.
God can go beyond all your incapacities, inabilities, lack of connections, disappointments, heartbreaks, let-downs, abandonment and neglect, and pick you out of a crowd, to turn a long and pending situation around in your favor. He has the remedy for every malady. His help is sufficient to deliver you from whatever dilemma confronts you today.
This reminds me of the testimony of a lady who went to a city in Nigeria in search for a job. She was told that employers preferred younger applicants and she didn’t have the right connections so it was near impossible for her to secure a job in that city; but, she trusted in God’s help.
On one fateful Sunday morning, on her way to church, she met someone who was out jogging, they got talking and it turned out that this person had a friend who was looking for someone with her qualifications, they got introduced and in a week, she resumed the job of her dreams!
Who would have thought that this lady would secure a job outside a boardroom absolutely not by her connections but by just walking to church at 6:30am? It doesn’t matter if there’s no one to help, because Jesus alone is HELP SUFFICIENT for every man.
