“Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”.” ~ Matthew 21:23
Reference:
Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem was for the fulfillment of His ultimate purpose. So much happened in just a few days; there was excitement in heaven and the children rejoiced. These got the devil’s attention, and he would use any means to stop Jesus. It began right in the temple. Can you see it? On a man’s journey to the most important season of his life, the enemy has a way of ‘raining on his parade’ and of finding a reason to undermine and undo him.
The rulers in the temple could not stomach all that Jesus accomplished in just two days; they felt threatened by His sudden rise to fame, but most especially, by the audacity with which He did all He did. They accused Him: “You rode in triumph like a king into Jerusalem, received the children’s hosannas, and accepted the honor of David’s son; You took charge in the temple, drove out the traders we permitted to be there, and You are here preaching a new doctrine.” That was quite ambitious for an otherwise unknown person to want to accomplish within a structured system that already had big players. So, the best way to discredit Him was to ask Him, “Where is your warrant (license)?” “Where did you get the authority to do all these from?” “Was it from Caesar, or from the high priest, or from God? Produce Your credentials!
As innocent as this question may appear, it can ‘dis-courage’ even the stoutest of hearts and make a man on a mission lose his footing, if he has no warrant. As you journey towards fulfilling your purpose and to do big things for God, one great weapon of satan’s is to question why you think you qualify to dream or to dare great things. He will speak through people in your relationship network or those who are already big players in the field. He will say, “Where is your warrant?” If you can’t successfully answer this question within yourself, the devil will floor you; he will weaken your hands and stifle your passion. Unless you are clear in your conscience concerning your mandate to do those things, success will be difficult. Jesus was persuaded that He was of God and sent by God; that was His warrant, and it was valid and good enough.
Why do you do what you are doing? Do you have heaven’s backing? Do you even have the right qualification? If God has sent you, go ahead with all confidence, and if you need to get a license or certification, go and get it. Whatever you need to boost your confidence in your pursuit of purpose, do it, so you can silence those who ask you for your warrant. The only reason you let a doctor perform surgery on you is because he has a warrant. Go and get your warrant.
