“And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.” ~ Genesis 5:3
REFERENCE:
Our text is an interesting one. God created Adam in His own image, but when Adam begot Seth, it was in his own likeness; but why not in the image of God as Adam was? Adam missed it somewhere, which affected his seed; the moment he was ‘polluted,’ everything that came out of him became polluted. Fathers, there are battles you must win for your children’s sake.
A father embodies stability, discipline, understanding consequences, analytical reasoning, protection, and provision, and because he engages the children more in rough play, he teaches them risk-taking. Research has shown that a father’s involvement in a child’s life through communication, play, counsel, and discipline helps their children in several ways:
a. Their IQ is higher (because Daddy gets to pose questions at them). Did so with my daughter.
b. Absenteeism in fathers makes daughters develop unhealthy sexual desires and can make them sexually active too early. It increases the chance of teenage pregnancy.
c. When Daddy is emotionally involved in the children’s lives, they are more emotionally secure and have healthy self-esteem.
d. The likelihood of a boy going into socially unacceptable behaviors or going to prison is significantly reduced when there is an involved father at home.
e. A child with no parental involvement from a father is more likely to make poor career choices.
f. A good father cum husband increases his children’s chances of having good marriages.
A father has a significant impact on a child (the future of society); this is why life tries to ruin many men/fathers, often before they have children: drugs or alcohol abuse, illicit sex, dishonesty, love of money, poverty, detachment from their wives and homes, career miscarriage, wrong choices, mid-life crisis, etc. His seeds will be broken if a father is broken except for God’s grace.
As a father, you must fight and win certain battles so that your children won’t have to fight them later. Some of you are fighting battles your fathers didn’t win, paying for their debts, and suffering the effects of their poor choices. Strive to give your children a fair chance in life – get up and fight; keep going, retrace your steps, and build something. Do so for your children’s sake.
