“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” – II Samuel 5:23
REFERENCE:
We learned that sometimes, we need to do the same things differently at different times – in ways prescribed by Divine leading. David had beaten the Philistines once, but they came up again with renewed zeal in the battle array. He was to adopt new tactics. He was not to “go up,” but to “circle around behind them.” It was different from his previous plan, but it worked.
The beauty of the strategy God gave to David is the divine signal that came with it; ‘the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees.’ It appears that the Lord of Hosts put on His battle armor and went ahead of David into the battle. He had to listen for the sound and then advance quickly. David could hear this ‘sound’ because he obeyed God’s initial command: “Don’t go up; circle around behind them.” If he went against that instruction, God would be under no obligation to march ahead of him into battle; he would hear no sound.
The sound on the trees represents a divine signal; it says that God is involved and at work. God will give divine signals concerning matters in our jurisdiction (family, work, social life, e.tc.). It is wise to act promptly when we receive these signals. The sound atop our mulberry trees may be timely counsel, sermon, word of knowledge or prophecy, the witness of the Spirit in your heart, and most importantly, a Spirit-inspired scripture during your bible study.
To be led into new strategies and exceptional results:
a). Live a life of obedience. Let the disposition of your mind be one that is ready to please God.
b). Stay sensitive to the voice or promptings of the Holy Spirit. Keep your antennae tuned to the frequency on which He broadcasts, and reduce the distractions in your life. Imagine if David had done everything right, but at the time there was sound on the trees, he was listening to music on his headphones or chit-chatting?
A friend of mine wanted a lovely apartment, but it was pricey. After praying, he called the agent and asked for an impossible discount. He told him he would ask the owner and get back to him the next day. The agent called the next night to say that the landlord agreed, but my friend was binging on a Netflix series on his TV. The phone rang and rang (the sound on the mulberry trees), but he did not hear it. He saw the missed calls around 10 am the next day. When he called back, another interested tenant had paid for the place. Don’t miss your opportunity to live a life of back-to-back victory; there is a sound at the top of the mulberry trees; listen and act promptly.
