“As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight.” ~ Luke 3:4
REFERENCE:
A wilderness is a dry and empty place; it is not a place for much activity, and the human population often moves away. One does not expect to hear the voice of a preacher in a desert, except the howling of evening jackals and other such animals. However, it is in the wilderness that God gave John the Baptist a ministry; He gave him an echoing voice, and the world heard it.
John the Baptist did not leave an enviable life, neither did he have an illustrious background by man’s yardstick. He wore basic animal skin clothing and ate locust and wild honey. He was not your conventional guy, yet God would use him for a trailblazing assignment. Do you feel like John, in a wilderness, not feeling you are the best guy for the job? Just hang in there.
Chapter three of Luke opens with the names of prominent political and priestly personalities: Emperor Tiberius Caesar, Governor Pontius Pilate, Herod the Tetrarch of Galilee, Philip the Tetrarch of Iturea, and Annas and Caiaphas, Jewish high priests. However, when God needed a man for His most important mission, he bypassed the establishment and entered the desert.
Do you feel like you are in a wilderness of some sort, feeling lonely, forgotten, or irrelevant? Do not despair; God will make you a voice in the wilderness. Despite your not-so-desirable state, He will do something through you that will get the attention of your generation. Although John lived in the desert, the whole city traveled to meet him there when God gave him a voice.
Consecrate yourself to God. Don’t spend time worrying about what wilderness of life you are in. Focus on making your life available to God, build your skills, work on yourself, and identify your message or uniqueness. Then hand it all over to God; He will make you a ‘voice in the wilderness,’ a sought-after brand. Your shop may be in a nondescript location, but people will find you out. You may not belong to the big league, but God will bypass them and use you.
