“Do as God does. After all, you are His dear children” ~ Ephesians 5:1 (CEV)
REFERENCE
You must have heard someone termed as ‘a chip off the old block.’ It simply means they are like their parent in either looks or behavior. Some cases are so striking that if you have seen a son, you have seen his father; similar character and qualities. Some little girls wear mummy’s shoes and lipstick, etc., because they want to be like them when they grow. The call to do as God does is to prove your sonship to God by ‘copying’ Him and doing what He does in all circumstances.
Doing as God does is living and walking in love because God is love. It is, knowing, loving, and hearing from God. He who does like God keeps himself unpotted by the world. The world may be experiencing decay, decline, and deprivation; sin and compromise may rise, and immorality may eat into the fabric of society, but it is alien to our culture as believers. It is filthy, forbidden, and abominable. Paul insisted, “Don’t have anything to do with anyone like that.”
To do as God does means being willing and ready to forgive, show kindness, speak faith, think good thoughts, etc. It is saying ‘light’ where you see darkness and believing when there is no reason to believe, like Abraham. Do as God does in speech, love, holiness, etc. These will show that we are God’s and not illegitimate children. Let your life be a mirror of His.
Let the life of God in you flow out freely. When faced with temptation, your initial thoughts should be, “How can I do as God does in this situation?” If an immoral idea comes, imitating God, in that instance, means a choice to obey what the word of God says. How do you know what God does? Good question. Get into His word, and He will reveal dispositions, attitudes, and behaviors you must adopt to let the world see Jesus Christ in you.
By doing what He does continually, God becomes the center of our focus, and by an immutable law of observation, we reproduce the image of our heavenly father in ourselves. His thoughts become our thoughts, His nature becomes second nature to us, and His desires become our passion. I call you to tarry in Bible Study and prayer before God. When Moses tarried with God, He came back looking like God, full of glory. Eventually, God made Moses His spokesman.

PONDER ON THESE:
- Who/What do I imitate? Is it God’s pure, undiluted Word or what the world projects?
- Is my life an imitation of the life Jesus exemplified through grace, or is it an imitation of what the world teaches through social media, TV, and popular culture?’
- What would you like to stop doing so you can look more like Jesus?
