“Our God is the God of salvation; And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.” – Psalm 68:20
If you cannot thank God for what you received, thank Him for what you escaped. If God opened our eyes to see the many unseen evils He protects us from or the many plans in the enemy’s mind restrained from hatching, thanksgiving would not be difficult. David made this statement after escaping two assassination attempts and living as a fugitive for years.
I often imagine that while some thieves plan a heist, God keeps the thoughts of my street or house from entering their minds. In the last six months, you escaped food poisoning, came late to a spot on the road just after a robbery, escaped fraudsters who posed as real estate agents when you failed to raise money for a property; you felt terrible that money did not come, but it was an escape. God’s angels fought back demonic forces while you slept. It is a mighty escape.
Six months are gone in the year. I submit to you that you are an overcomer. You stand because God stood by you; else, that marital crisis would have consumed you, the money you lost in the deal would have sunk you, and that betrayal would have ruined everything you built over the years. When your wheel gave way while speeding and the car somersaulted, it would have been fatal, but angels were on guard; the Lord stood by you, and you experienced a great escape.
Can you remember something you escaped? What was that situation that was so bad but God rescued you from? Did God snatch you out of the jaws of death? Some of you did not come close to any trouble in recent times – no near accidents, sickness, or robbery around you or family members. Your children commuted daily to school safely; they never went to the hospital. You equally must find reasons to thank God in this season. Thank Him for Divine Protection.
Despite what your story has been in the year, thank God for what you escaped, for the trouble you did not see. Do not go into the year’s second half without counting your blessings. What you acknowledge and thank God for gets multiplied. So, say with David, “My God is the God of salvation (deliverance, rescue, and healing); and unto Him belong escapes from death!”
