Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from the slave, though he is the master of all. – Galatians 4:1
REFERENCE
Galatians 4:1-7
An heir is someone who has the legal right to inherit the properties of another at their demise. On the other hand, a child is a minor who needs guardians, minders and teachers for daily direction. This means, a child is immature and is incapable of handling certain responsibilities or having certain privileges extended to it. An heir who is still a child, therefore, cannot lay claim to his inheritance until he attains a required level of maturity.
Everyone who has accepted Christ is an heir of God, which means the vast promises of God belongs to him/her, but as long as the person (believer) remains a baby in their spiritual walk, they won’t experience all of God. The best they can have are crumbs that fall from the Master’s table.
A spiritual baby is a believer that is at the elementary stage of their walk with God. Every believer starts out as a baby in Christ, but is expected to grow into adulthood so they can become responsible in handling the affairs of the kingdom. However, when you remain a spiritual baby instead of growing, you become a liability because a baby cannot help itself or others. A common trait of spiritual babies is that they are unskilled in the Word of righteousness, and have not developed their spiritual capacity. Thus, they are usually known to be carnal and easily deceived by Satan; they are also easy prey to destructive doctrines which they gladly accept because they are largely ignorant.
No right thinking parent will commit things of great value into the hands of a baby because a baby simply doesn’t have the capacity to take care of such. Likewise, God cannot commit anything of value into the hands of spiritual babies, lest they destroy it or it destroys them. Therefore, in order to leave the babyhood stage and grow to where you will start receiving your rich inheritance in Christ, you should be willing to not only study the Word, but do what it says. You should be diligent in prayer, and you should never miss an opportunity to exercise your faith. There is so much the Heavenly Father has ‘willed’ to you in Christ Jesus, don’t let it remain in the pages of the bible – GROW UP AND GET IT!
