“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” – 1 Peter 4:10
REFERENCE:
Everything you have has been given to you by God; it is not yours; you hold it in trust for the actual Owner, God. Webster’s dictionary says stewardship is the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. It is managing something on another’s behalf. Stewardship is about living your life knowing it is a loan from God until you return to Him.
Ultimately, the test of stewardship is in the area of finances. Every dime you have is entrusted to you by God to manage and serve His purpose. Success in financial stewardship is key to success in other areas of stewardship. The rich young ruler kept all the requirements of the law of Moses but could not part with his money; he failed the financial stewardship test. The money in your possession belongs to God. Leave it at His disposal, consult Him on how to use it, use it to please Him, and to invest it in matters of concern to Him and His kingdom. Money not submitted to God is money that will soon become an idol.
It is required in stewards that one is found faithful. Faithfulness is the least expected of a steward. You must be faithful in accounting for every dime you get; in managing, saving and investing it. You should never use your wealth to hurt another person. Biblical financial stewardship is using money to support God’s work and sponsoring the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The parable of the talents shows the reward of faithfulness in stewardship: To everyone who has and manages it well, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, or who mismanages, even what he has will be taken away.
A good steward understands that a tenth of his income should be given to God (as a minimum) to acknowledge Him as the Giver through prompt, cheerful, and generous giving. When God finds a faithful steward, He ensures that more resources come to him for kingdom investments. Our God gives bread (to eat) and seed (to sow) to those who are committed kingdom-sowers. Financial stewardship invokes God’s blessings on everything you set your hands to do. Therefore, no door on earth will be permanently shut against you. God gets committed to your prosperity.
