“What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you.” ~ Job 13:2
REFERENCE:
We battle feelings of inferiority at some point or in some situation in our lives. We do not like it, but the feeling comes. The dictionary says, “Inferiority complex is an unrealistic feeling of general inadequacy caused by actual or supposed inferiority in one sphere, and can sometimes be marked by aggressive behavior in compensation. Most people do not exhibit aggression; they tend to be timid, self-condemn, deprecate, or hide their talents.
Feeling inferior is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone. It is self-sabotaging and self-defeating often a precursor to failure in any venture. An inferiority complex can be self-induced or imposed on you externally. This latter was what Job had to contend with. His friends who came to mourn with him spoke a lot of spiritual highfalutin jargon that suggested his woes befell him because of his ignorance of God, His ways, and His requirements.
Some people like these men feel important by cutting others down. Job could not take it any longer and retorted, “I am not inferior to you. I won’t buy that from you. You can’t make me feel like I don’t know what I am doing or that I am not good enough.” Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Job refused to be bullied by saying: What you know, I also know. I am as educated and exposed as you are.
To overcome an inferiority complex like Job:
- Get knowledge and get exposed.
- Develop yourself in different areas of your life.
- Read books, attend training, work hard at excelling in your duties or studies, and commit to being a lifelong learner.
- Remember that if someone knows something better than you, there are areas where you know something better than them; you are not inferior.
Above all, as believers, we are accepted in the beloved and clothed in the righteousness of God. God sees us through the blood of Jesus Christ; whatever you think is your demerit has been nailed to the cross and taken out of your way. God says you are good enough, fine enough, wise and intelligent enough, and forever loved. You are not inferior to anyone. You are a priceless original, and today, God extends a blank check to you to become all you dream and work to be.
