Our text reveals a mystery which shows that so much of what happens in our lives depends on what happens with our mouths. We therefore cannot live victorious Christian lives without taking control of the mouth. When God made man and breathed the breath of life into Him, Genesis 2:7 says, “…and man became a ‘living being.’” The Targum Onkelos, an ancient Aramaic translation says ‘…and man became ANOTHER speaking spirit.’ Man became a speaking spirit like God. This is what separates man from other forms of life.
When God created the world we see today, He set an example for us, but more importantly, He also instituted a spiritual law – the Law of Confession; of declaring words birthed in the heart to effect change on the earth. This law uses words to shape one’s world (Hebrews 11:3). Thus, no matter what your world looks like now, you can reshape it with your words.
A Law is a statement of fact, deduced from observation, to the effect that a particular phenomenon always occurs if certain conditions are present. It is established principles based on the predictable outcomes of an act. That is, you can predict outcomes of a thing when you do that thing a particular way.
Since, the law of confession is an unbendable universal and spiritual law, is it possible that we use it to our advantage? The answer can be found in different expressions of this law in the Bible:
a. Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue…
b. Mark 11:23 – Whosoever shall say…and shall not doubt, but believes…he shall have whatever he says.
c. Matthew 12:37- By your words you shall be justified or condemned.
We see then that there is a connection between what you say and what you have. You can determine what you have by what you say; it is a law and it cannot be broken. Your words can change your world and you will ultimately harvest your words. If you understand this, then you must mind your mouth and the words that proceed there from.
David said in Psalm 45:1, “My heart is overflowing with a good theme…my tongue is as the pen of a ready writer.” This means, you can use your tongue to write how your story will end. You can change what your story reads or sounds like now. The pen is not in God’s or Satan’s hands; the pen is in your hands…IN YOUR MOUTH.
