I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13
REFERENCE
Philippians 4:13
We learnt yesterday that life is designed to impose limits on us; however, the God who lives in us is limitless. From His standpoint, these limits are meant to be pushed, challenged, broken and exceeded. That’s why God genetically designed you with some ‘die-hard resilience’ – the power to fight, to push against adversity, to prevail against competitions, to succeed and to rise to the top. You say, “How do you know that Pastor?” Because you made it out of the possible millions of sperm cells that competed for fertilization (and had to break through the barrier between eternal extinction and divine procreation) and you were born.
It is inside every person to strive against all odds and prosper; this is why even those born with some physical disabilities become great achievers in life. Thus, it is always a pitiful sight to see people who have resigned themselves to a life of defeat (especially Christians).
Fleas are known to be great jumpers; they can jump as high as 18 centimeters. But, an experiment was carried out where they put them in a glass jar measuring 6 centimeters, and then released them to jump. Of course, they could only jump as high as the jar permitted them to, because it imposed a limitation on their ability to jump higher. Consequently, when the glass was removed, they still couldn’t jump above 6 centimeters because they couldn’t shake off the limitation the glass ceiling formerly imposed on them. So now, it is a sorry sight to see fleas that can jump as high as 18 centimeters, only jump to 6.
Likewise, we all have more talents and abilities than we realize we have; many people perform below their capacity; they are too timid or afraid to venture because failure has conditioned their ability to dream. Many have resigned to where they are, unwilling to try again; but that is not God’s will for us.
God planned abundant life for us – unrestricted and unfettered joy and success; and we have to develop our faith to receive ALL of the goodies God planned for us to have. We have to break every glass ceiling and push ourselves to our maximum. We have to confront every invisible wall of limitation that confronts us; we must change our language from, “What if it doesn’t work, to what if it works?” And we must consciously decide to push beyond the limits that have been set over our lives.
In subsequent editions, we will study different categories of limitations, and how to break them.
