…One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. – Mark 10:21-22
From the account of today’s passage, we see that, it is very possible for a man to be very religious and not be generous. However, any religion that has not affected the pocket is no religion at all. Religion becomes empty lip-service, when it does not affect your pocket or place demands on your substance, which represents your sweat and security for the future.
It is also the duty of true religion to use its wealth and substance to seek the welfare of the poor. “Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is to visit widows and orphans in their affliction” (James 1:27), it is to care for the poor.
Parting with wealth for godly or religious purposes, says to God that you trust Him as your source and not your sweat or effort. It also means that you see God as your future and your security, not what you have stored up or invested.
Your act of consistent giving will bring you to the realization that God is never against you having great possessions, by reason of the increase He will release upon you for trusting Him. He is only against great possessions having you because you will make those possessions your god. You cannot serve God and mammon!
As you obey God’s word to give, WEALTH & riches will follow you this WEDNESDAY!
Proverbs 19:17, Matthew 6:24 & Hebrews 13:16.
* Pray for a healthy balance where giving of your substance is concerned; that you will not withhold good from God’s work or others when it is in your power to do it.
* Uproot every root of selfishness in your life; and declare that you are prompt to heed the instructions of God.
