“When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.” – Deuteronomy 8:10

REFERENCE:

Deuteronomy 8:7-18

Watch global news or walk a few miles from your neighborhood, and you will notice the hundreds and thousands of people who lack most of life’s necessities. There is a scarcity of food and clean water; many are jobless, homeless, and living in abject poverty. I often feel pained that many may never be able to enter a fast-food joint and buy a beef burger. It’s sad.

Reading this today is an indication that life has been kind to you. You most likely have a mobile device or computer; you have food, clothes, and a place to lay your head. Pause, think, and thank God, considering what the reverse would have been like; there are things you take for granted that are a luxury to others. You are blessed if your only worry is the insufficient spice in a meal, your need to change jobs, renovate your house, travel for holidays, or get a new dress.

Moses charged the Israelites to know that all their present and future blessings were from God. He warned them to be careful not to fall into the trap we often fall into – forgetfulness and ingratitude. How would people with silver and gold, wheat, barley, vines, fig-trees, springs, water brooks, large herds, etc., not be grateful to God? But it happens. We soon forget what we received from God and start seeking what we want from Him. Israel experienced God’s love and goodness in uncommon ways, yet Moses warned them not to forget God, but they did.

If you have food to eat to your satisfaction, thank God; it is His doing. If you have some clothes or jewelry (costume or gold), God gave them to you. If you have a parcel of land, it is of the Lord. If your business is doing well, thank God you even have a business or a job. Pause, think, thank God. It is possible to have all these benefits and still forget to thank God. Look back at this week, and thank God for His help and favor all week. Also, thank Him for food, clothes in your wardrobe, the ability to pay your bills, children, a spouse, a home, etc. These are not a right; they are a privilege from God; may His name be forever praised. Don’t dwell on the things you yet lack; so much is working in your favor. Pause, think, and give thanks to God.
