“By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” ~ II Peter 1:4
REFERENCE:
God’s greatest gift to man is His word. Believers are privileged more than the people of this world because the oracles of God have been committed to them. Peter referred to the truth in God’s word as exceedingly great and precious promises. God could have given us precious metals or financial success; He gave us His word instead. Why did He do that?
Peter chronicles some reasons why God gave us His word ahead of His other gifts to us:
a. For the Knowledge of God (vs.3): It is through the word of God that we know God; it tells us who He is, His nature, power, attributes, etc. It is the mirror from which we behold His face. The knowledge of God is man’s great possession because that knowledge helps him to have an accurate knowledge of all the other things, people, nature, and events in the world.
b. To Share in God’s Nature (vs.4): By receiving, believing in, and acting upon the word, we share in the wisdom and nature of God and begin to live the supernatural life. Jesus said, “He called them gods, to whom the word of God came.” The word of God makes you a ‘god;’ it empowers your words so that you get God’s kind of results. When the word dwells richly in your heart, you become a master of sickness, demons, fear, etc., Like God, like you.
c. For Victory Over the World (vs.4): When you have the word, you can say no to the passions and lust of this world; the devil will identify you as ‘untouchable,’ you become too wise to be fooled by satan’s deception and subtlety. Your nature will begin to hate and repel sin, you tend to spot temptations from afar and avoid them, and you are empowered to cast out devils. When you live in God’s word, the world system has ‘nothing’ on you.
Peter referred to God’s word as exceedingly great and precious promises for these notable reasons. The living word of God in you will always give you victory over satan and all his plans. You become too spiritual, wise, knowledgeable, and discerning for satan to control.
Ignorance of the word is the reason that satan still messes with many believers. If you embrace God’s word, and let it transform you, you will be unstoppable. You will live a supernaturally victorious life and walk in a dimension of power that will make satan tremble. The word will keep you in the world but unstained by the world. Your deliverance is in God’s precious promises.
