Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. – Hebrews 2:1 NKJV
REFERENCE
Hebrews 2:1-4
The context of our key verse today teaches us that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He is superior to the angels, for they are created, but He is eternally self-existent. Then the admonition goes further to say if people were punished for disobeying messages given through angels, how much more when we disobey the Lord of Angels – Jesus Christ.
Our key verse however is very instructive. “Heed the word of God, else you drift away.” This is important because the bible is not just the words of angels or eloquent prophets and preachers. It is the revelation of Jesus, ‘the Word become flesh’ Himself, Who is the fulfillment and the substance of all prophecies; He is the very embodiment of the oracles of God.
We therefore must be careful to heed the word of God, else we drift into all forms of baseless doctrines and heresies. Today, there are false prophets and prophecies, there is secular humanism and philosophy, there is the new age doctrine and many superstitious beliefs. A believer who is not grounded in the word of God will easily be a prey and will be led astray.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and they will not follow a stranger.” The only way to know God’s voice and to not be deceived is to constantly study the Bible. Don’t compromise on it, lest you be deceived.
