I have told you that I am He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way. – John 18:8
REFERENCE
John 18:3-11
“Let them go their way.” By these words, Jesus became the ultimate substitute and sacrifice for the sin of mankind. He was going to die, so that we would live, His incarceration meant our freedom and His punishment meant our peace and healing.
As was usually done with animal sacrifices for the atonement of sin, the priest would lay his hands on the animal and confess the sins of the people upon it, and then God’s judgement that should have come on the people, would come instead on the animal.
Thus letting the people go because a substitute was found that became their ransom. Likewise, Jesus became our ‘ransom’ and freed us from God’s judgement.
By this statement also, He forever commanded Satan to let us go by allowing Himself to come under his evil power for a time. When He said that, sickness heard it, failure heard it, frustration heard it, poverty heard it and they had no choice but to release us from their grip. WE ARE FREE INDEED BECAUSE JESUS SET US FREE!
