So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” II Kings 4:2

II Kings 4:1-7
In life we are often stagnated and discouraged by areas in our lives that we think we are disadvantaged. But, no one is ever at a position in life where they are totally disadvantaged. God will never leave you at a point where you are totally helpless and can’t come out of a predicament.
The widow in this passage cried out to Elisha in desperation because she was clearly at a disadvantaged position in life; she had reached her wits end. Penniless without a source of income, didn’t have any possessions to her name, and worst of all, was at the verge of losing both her sons to her late husband’s creditor.
When Elisha asked her, “What do you have in your house?” It seemed like a senseless question because it was obvious that she was impoverished. So, clearly her reply was, “Nothing but a jar of oil.” That jar of oil may have looked very ordinary and insignificant in her eyes, but God took it, made something great out of it, and it became a source of livelihood for her and her sons.
No man’s hand is empty in life; God Himself sees to it that either by birth or through the process of life and living, every man soon finds something in his hands – a skill, a talent, a learning, a qualification, an experience, exposure, etc. All these furnish a man to exchange his poverty for prosperity, failure for success, and insignificance for relevance.
There is a man in the city of Abuja, Nigeria, whose skill seemed very ordinary some years ago; all he had was a good dress sense. But armed with that skill, he offered useful fashion tips to men who were willing to pay to look smart. Today, he is a successful fashion consultant who travels all over the world to make bespoke clothes for his clients.
Don’t be intimidated by any handicap you think you have, if you will only open your eyes, it will shock you to see the opportunities that are around you and the strengths within you. Step out in faith and put what God has put in you to good use; He will make something great out of it.
