YOU CAN: GO AHEAD!

“Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” – Jeremiah 1:4-6

“You can: go ahead!” In essence, this was God’s response to Jeremiah’s excuse: “I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” God told him, “You shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.” Jeremiah must understand that the God who commissioned him for a mission would equally empower him for it. Giving an excuse is just not necessary.

If what you sense God is telling you to do is something that you can do without His help, it is likely not God. God’s calling will initially rock you to your foundation, task your faith, and query your loyalty to God. Sometimes, the task is so big that people often respond in amusing ways: Saul went to hide behind the equipment when Samuel chose him to be king, Gideon brought out his birth certificate and school report cards to show God his littleness and stories of failure.

Like Jeremiah, we unconsciously place our weaknesses and unfavorable circumstances above God’s ability and available grace to serve His purpose. If God stirs your heart to do something for Him, He imparts grace, strength, and anointing into you. Making excuses as Moses and Jeremiah did means and will change nothing. God says, “You can: go ahead and do it!”

If you know God has been prompting your heart to start that business, get a higher degree, or apply for that opening/position in the international organization, challenge your excuses because God has equipped you and says, “You can: go ahead!” Although Jeremiah was a young boy, God equipped him with His word, boldness, promised protection, and authority.

Have you ever dreamt of going on a safari, going back to school to study law, becoming a pilot, getting an enterprise started, proposing to a lady, etc.? Grace is available; God says, “You can: go ahead.” Refuse to procrastinate; take the first step, make a move, and call the institution. Nothing moves unless you move. Jeremiah would have quit unless God showed up for him.
