By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You. – Psalm 71:6
REFERENCE
Psalm 71:1-6.
In this 71st Psalm, the Psalmist expressed his abiding trust in God; confident that God would not put him to shame but cause him to escape from every trouble life would throw at him. He took God to be his strong refuge and his rock and fortress. Lastly, he expected God to deliver him out of the hand of the wicked and from every evil plot. What confidence in God! What assurance of faith! The secret of such assurance is in our key verse; he (i.e. David) had a history with God…a history dating back to as early as when he was a child…from the day he was born.
The Psalmist exclaimed, “By you I have been upheld from birth.” He was simply saying to God (in contemporary terms), “As I look back at the day I got my existence, I realize that it was you, and not the doctor or the midwife, who superintended over my birth in the labor room, in the throes of birth. It was not the skill of any man of learning, but it was Your tender life-giving hands that took delivery of me. My mother and I made it safely through that process because You were present in that room; You were involved and coordinated the whole process, no wonder You have upheld me since that day and You have taken a special interest in my life up until now.” So true! Isn’t this the testimony of us all?
No matter what you still desire to see happen in your life, you are here today because God has sustained and upheld you from the day of your birth. He allowed no disease or sickness to claim your life. He has preserved you in all your travels. He has answered several prayers and desires. He has forgiven your several misdeeds and neither did He allow your naughtiness as a youth, be your undoing in life. If God has been thus concerned about and involved in your life, why would you not trust Him with the rest of your life, your dreams, career and family? Why would you not like the Psalmist, take Him as your refuge and the One who keeps shame away from you?
Don’t despair, don’t lose faith, don’t turn back from following God; you have come too far to turn back. Now is your deliverance nearer than when you first prayed. If God has carried you from birth till today, He is not about to drop and abandon you – no! He is not a God of abandoned projects. He has invested too much on and in you to let it all go to waste. Rest assured that He will carry you into a better tomorrow, simply because He thus far has carried you from birth.
