When you know the character of someone, you can predict how he/she will act or react in certain situations. Likewise, our Christianity can only be as good as our knowledge or concept of God; and it is only when we have a balanced perception of God’s character that we can cultivate a healthy and sustainable relationship with Him.
Some people perceive God to be like their earthly fathers who mete out instant justice by punishing them any time they do wrong. They think God has a short fuse, and is looking for the slightest wrong in their lives to descend heavily on them with His wrath. But that is so far from the truth, as revealed from our text, God is always merciful, loving and patient.
Joel 2:13 makes us understand that God is slow to anger and is plenteous in kindness. He is that way with us for reasons which includes but not limited to:
- His name sake – so He doesn’t act contrary to His kind nature (Isaiah 48:9).
- He knows our frame – the propensity of our flesh to blunder, so He does not deal with us according to what our sin deserves (Psalm 103:8-14).
- So we can love Him more – anyone who receives much forgiveness, loves more – when someone treats you better than you deserve, you tend to love them more (Luke 7:41-47).
- Because He loves us dearly and gave us His son – Jesus died for us while we were yet sinners and He lives to make intercession for us (Romans 5:8).
Don’t run away from God because of your shortcomings, run to Him instead, and His grace will teach you how to live a victorious godly life one day at a time.

1. My understanding of God will determine the extent of my relationship with him.
2. He who receives much forgiveness, loves more.

If we love someone we won’t want to break their heart,we will do all we can to keep the affection and love going on…..Same with God! .If we say we love him, we will do all we can to stay away from sin…. We cannot continue in Sin became his grace abounds!(If we continue in Sin,It means we don’t Love God)
Our New commandment is Love…..if we truly love we will keep the 10 commandments by DEFAULT!
We must stop taking the Love of God for granted and make love our Motive for doing all that we do …then we will overcome!!!.
