“Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit…” – Genesis 37:19-20a

We are familiar with the story of Joseph and how he became a Prince in Egypt. His journey to becoming a prince came at a huge price and it was no mean feat as he had to suffer great losses and shed the ‘weights’ that held him back from becoming who God destined him to be so that he could run to obtain the prize.

Firstly, he had the coat from his father that represented his father’s love, his prophetic calling for impact and relevance to nations, and his uniqueness. Secondly, he dreamt of greatness, the magnitude of which made his siblings feel small and envy him. But, with every dream, comes a price; the bigger the dream, the greater the price to be paid for its accomplishment. Joseph must pay a heavy price to jumpstart his journey to greatness, namely, His brothers conspired to kill him, stripped him of his coat of many colors, and sold him into slavery. The Ishmaelites who bought him took him down to Egypt (a type of sin, worldliness, and a downward movement). But while the devil was messing, God was behind the scene, blessing him. How? God orchestrated events and Joseph ended up being bought by Potiphar.

Not everybody will believe in your dream, but this doesn’t mean you should let it die; keep dreaming, build (on) it, do not stay with the first vision, dream again, expand your horizon and be creative. Write your dreams on paper, and engrave them plainly on the tablet of your heart, that they might provoke you to run to fulfill them. Every dream has its appointed, future time, but be assured that the dream will not fail. It might seem delayed, wait patiently for it. Joseph paid the price to see his dreams become reality; God showed him the END in his dreams, He never showed Him the MEANS (the journey by which he would have to pay a high price).

The price Joseph paid to secure his glorious future eventually won him a big prize. There is a price to pay for achieving anything of significance or greatness. Whatever venture you want to delve into, count the cost first, determine to pay the price, and then you will achieve success and win the prize. Do you have your eyes set on a big contract, a job opportunity, or a sister you want to marry; you have to pay the price to get what you desire? Jesus admonished that if you would come after Him, you must first count the cost, be aware of the price to be paid, then take up your cross and follow Him.

Keep your eyes on the prize while paying the price!

REFLECTION

Dreams are free! In every dream, there is hidden a price to pay for its accomplishment; the price to be paid is determined by the relevance, greatness, and influence of your dreams. The journey to fulfilling your dreams requires a price to be paid through hard work, dedication, and diligence.
