But his bow abode in strength and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob -Genesis 49:24
REFERENCE:
The Cambridge Dictionary defines a Pillar as a very important member of a group, organization, or system. Structurally defined as a tall vertical structure used as a support for a building; a pillar represents stability, backbone, support, and strength. It is a bridge uniting and separating two realms. From our reading, we see how important Joseph was to the preservation of the Israelite race. God sent him ahead of His people to prepare a place and a future for them. When Jacob gathered all his sons to bless them as he lay dying, he recognized Joseph as a pillar among them. The son who was destined for greatness and prosperity, regardless of whatever life threw at him.
Joseph’s life, like a Pillar, stood as a testimony: he did not treat his ‘enemies’ the same way they treated him; he ‘fought’ them with weapons of innocence, integrity, chastity, fortitude, wisdom, prudence, and patience, faith, hope, etc. He was a Pillar, solid and sure; unshaken and immovable. God Himself confirmed Joseph as a stone to uphold and support the whole nation, a type of Christ. Jacob gave Joseph a double portion of the inheritance, a blessing that even his brothers could not have. He received the blessings of heaven above and the deep beneath (uniting heaven and earth). Jacob declared that Joseph’s seeds would do extraordinary exploits, always going beyond the place of their planting and all walls of limitations. Finding relevance in global settings, they would be a people to reckon with.
God wants you to be a pillar; to show the world His righteousness, His way of living, reflect His character, honesty, deep love, and faithfulness. “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God…” As a pillar, you stand strong to support the myriads of others coming after you by encouraging and lifting them to overcome sin and build godly character. Do not allow storms, troubles, betrayals, trials, and tremors to cause you to sway and collapse. Remain solidly focused on Christ and you will develop into a straight and strong pillar.
