“Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.” ~ Genesis 34:1
REFERENCE:
We rarely hear about Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah. Imagine the love and attention she enjoyed in the family as the only daughter with twelve brothers. They would dote on her, protect her, and shower her with good things and gifts. She must have been Daddy’s girl.
Dinah grew up in a godly home with godly values. Her father was a patriarch and a prophet who had encounters with God and would have shared stories of his exploits with his children. She knew God’s covenant with Israel to make them a nation of holy priests, give them the land of Canaan, and keep them separated from the heathens around them. However, as Dinah got older, she decided to test the boundaries and try the forbidden. It was a costly decision.
Dinah decided to leave her home and territory to go out and ‘see’ the daughters of the land (of Shechem). She was curious to know what they were about, how they dressed, their social life, what made them different from the Israelites, why they were to keep away from them, etc. It is said that “Curiosity kills the cat.” Dinah was cute, but she was also curious. While trying to ‘see,’ she was ‘seen’ by a godless, idolatrous man, who ‘abducted’ and raped her. Her curiosity led her to stray into enemy territory, where her cuteness got her into trouble.
As God’s beloved, we are kept under God’s care; we may be in the world, but we are not of the world; we are citizens of Zion who live by different sets of rules. Satan knows this, so he seeks ways to get us to step out of ‘Daddy’s house.’ He tells you that serving God is too restrictive and that the people in the world are having more fun. He also says their ladies are more attractive, their guys richer, their music sweeter, and they have more opportunities to make it. These awaken your curiosity, and before you know it, you step out of God’s protective presence and the devil strikes.
When satan would hit Jacob’s family, he looked for the only daughter, the cute and loved one. What a blow this must have been to the family. Satan knows how precious (cute) you are to God, hence the increased curiosity to ‘step out and see’. Take care and don’t let your curiosity get the better of you. If God says to keep away from something, He knows why. Dinah’s curiosity cost her; it will cost you too. May God keep you from falling.

PRAYERS:
+ Lord, help me to rest in Your love for me and keep me from thinking that being in Christ is missing out on life’s best.
+ I pray that my curiosity will not get the better of me. If God has forbidden it for me, it stays prohibited. I rest in Your love for me, dear Father, and I know I am safe in you.
+ In any way I have strayed and any Shechemite has taken advantage of me, Lord, please heal and restore me, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help me to be alert, and not be easily swayed by the allure of things forbidden. I refuse the curiosity that pulls me towards the things of the world. I am at home and at peace in You, Lord.
Amen 🙏🏽. Thank you Sir
Amen 🙏🏽
No matter how desirable the attention is, It’s not easy being the only girl or boy in the house really.
The devil will never through my curiosity get underserved access to my family, my church, my team and friends. I remain in the fellowship of the brethren where I’m watered and I water others.
Amen!
Amennnn!
I stay within the boundaries of “Daddy’s house”
Lord, help me to always, always remain within the boundary of your love & word in Jesus’ name.
God always wants to protect us… But sometimes curiosity gets the best of us and gets us into trouble. God saves, heals and restores but many people come back with so many scars. May God help us
Amen
