“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. ~ Isaiah 49:15
REFERENCE:
These trying times can make you feel alone and wonder if God still knows your postcode or cares. You may have had an item on your prayer list for years that has yet to be sorted out by God, and it heightens your uncertainty about the days ahead. Do not fret. The devil wants you to think God has forgotten about you, but He says, “I will never forget you.”
Isaiah brings hope to a nation (Israel) in Babylonian captivity for decades, promising them God’s visitation for their deliverance. Life in captivity meant the inability to own properties, forced labor, shame and humiliation, uncertainty, poverty, persecution, etc. Israel must have felt forgotten by a God who was their national God. Had they offended Him that much that He would not even forgive them? Isaiah gave hope that He would redeem them.
David, in similar circumstances of being a fugitive and a vagabond, although with the promise of God, said, “For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever,” Psalm 9:18. In Psalm 37:25, he also said, “I was young, but now I am old, I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging bread” God will not forget you.
Are you grappling with unanswered prayers, unmet expectations, and contrary winds? Isaiah said, “Sing and be joyful. The Lord has neither forgotten nor forsaken you. It is nearly impossible for a nursing mother to forget her baby; in the same way, God can’t forget you; rest assured. He has tattooed your name on His palms and takes note of all your tears. He will not forget you.
A pastor once told me about a man he ‘sensed’ to call promptly. On answering the phone, the man, who had lost everything he had, burst out crying and said, “Now I know God has not forgotten me.” He had a gun on the seat next to him in his car and was about to ‘end it all’ when the call came in. He cried as the pastor counseled him. He started again, and God has begun restoring all he lost. Do not despair; today, God tells you, “I will not forget you.”
