“In the LORD I put my trust; how can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?” ~ Psalm 11:1
REFERENCE:
We are believers because we believe in the resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ, and trust Him for help and deliverance from trouble. You must have professed or sung about how much you would always trust in God once before. To trust God is to firmly believe in God’s faithfulness, ability, or power. However, what will your stand be when trials test trust?
“Flee as a bird to your mountain.” It appears that David’s friends (well-wishers) gave him this counsel. They were concerned about how his life was constantly in jeopardy from Saul’s dark and hateful spells, during which he threw spears at David to kill him. They felt resigning from the job, running to a haven, or going into exile would save him from untimely death.
“David, we know you are anointed, but don’t think that it will save you; in fact, the anointing might occasion your death,” they must have said. David was vexed in his spirit; “How can you give me such a counsel? Have I not constantly professed my trust in God before you? Did you not see how He delivered me from a lion, bear, and Goliath? What would fleeing say of my God?”
David was not as bothered that running might make him look like a coward as he was that it was contrary to His professed trust in God. He often said, “O Lord my God, in You I put my trust” (Psalm 7:1), so running will suggest unbelief to him. Trials will often offer options that sound good but will erode your trust in God. How do you identify such options?
Do they show that you are competent or that you trust in God? Do they contradict what you once believed and confessed about God? Do they make you pray less or more? Refuse to entertain anything that weakens your reliance on God. If there is ever a time you need to trust God, it is during trials. Like Peter, satan will want you to keep your eyes on the storm, but keep it on Jesus. When trials test your trust, don’t give in to trials; hold on to your trust in God.

PRAYER:
One hymn says, “When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace, in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. On Christ the solid rock I stand…”
Declare: No matter what storms of life come my way, my trust will remain unshaken in God. I stand on Christ, the solid rock and the anchor of my faith and trust, and hold securely to Him.
