“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” – I Timothy 1:15
REFERENCE:
As I travel down memory lane and look at my life, I remember the nights of uncertainty about the future and fear; I remember the constant harassment in dreams and the mental torment. Bound by bad habits that were harmful to me but I couldn’t break free from, I was a hopeless wreck. Then, one Sunday morning, the light of Jesus’ love came into my heart, and I was set free. It is for this reason I thank God for salvation.
This is the sentiment that Apostle Paul expresses in our text; he was thankful for the salvation of his soul. He looked at his former life as a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man – the chief of sinners, yet God showed him mercy and overlooked his misdeeds. He obtained the gift of salvation and got a bonus of the honor of being called into the ministry.
We do not know what God delivered us from when He saved us in Christ Jesus. He plucked us from the zone where satan could tamper with our lives and destinies, He cleansed and redeemed us from the influence and dominion of sin, He delivered us from the horrors of hell after death, He gave us the authority to use His name. He sent the gift of His Holy Spirit into our hearts.
Can you remember what your life was like before Jesus came in? Were there destructive habits you struggled with and wondered if you would ever be free from? Can you look back and plot where your life would be today if Jesus did not save you when He did? What kind of man, boss, husband, or father would you be if the love of God had not touched your heart in salvation?
This Thanksgiving season, be thankful for salvation. Rejoice because old things have passed away, and everything has become new. Thank God for the freedom you know, the meaning your life has, and how living makes more sense than ever. Remember that your life was in a sorry state before Christ, but now, you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
