As seen in the last episode, there are legal provisions that parallel what is obtainable in human courts that we can employ in courtroom prayers. In human courts, the better acquainted you are with the law or legal provisions, the stronger your case and the likelier you are to win. Let us continue to discover the available legal provisions to win our case in the court of heaven.
c. Invoke the ‘Statute of Limitations’: This legal provision defines the period when a lawsuit can be brought to court. When the specified period has passed, that lawsuit can no longer be filed because it is prohibited by law. For example, in Nigeria, the statute of limitations for filing an election petition is 21 days from the date the electoral body (INEC) declares the election results. The court will not entertain any matter filed after 21 days.
Tell the accuser (satan) that the statute of limitations prohibits him from bringing up your sins or those of your fathers against you (Deuteronomy 5:9, Daniel 9:2). Insist that heaven’s court will no longer entertain matters of your past. Insist that Jesus is your statute of limitations—for when a man is in Christ, he is brand new and without a past (II Cor. 5:17).
d. Hire An Advocate: An advocate is a person who pleads on someone else’s behalf. He is a barrister or lawyer. I watch crime documentaries often, and occasionally, I notice some offenders who insist they will represent themselves in court. They think they can charm the jury or the judge with tears or smooth talk, but they often end up making a mess of their cases and end up in jail. Be wise; always hire a respectable lawyer to represent you!
We have an advocate in Christ Jesus who intercedes for us. Invite Him into the matter. He has a track record of winning His cases, having disarmed principalities and powers. He has an audience in heaven’s court more than you do. Don’t try to defend yourself; you will regret it; ask Jesus, your Senior Advocate, to speak for you. In judicial prayers, say, “I appropriate the intercessions of Jesus for me. Jesus, speak for me and vindicate me.”
