“We didn’t fight for this land; we didn’t work for it—it was a gift!” ~ Psalm 44:3 (MSG)
REFERENCE:
Psalm 44:1-3 (MSG)
In life, you must have observed that the swift man does not always win the race, strong people do not always win the battle, wise people don’t automatically become rich, and the hard-working get adequately rewarded. It seems skewed, but it is because God’s favor is an essential element to man’s promotion, and a man cannot receive anything unless it is a gift from God.
Favor is an act of kindness shown to people beyond what is due them; it is to assist, support, and provide them with advantages. God’s favor is unmerited; we do not qualify for it. Scriptures show the power of God’s favor. Our text indicates that God gave Israel a land they did not fight for and weeded out the godless from it. David said, “We didn’t work for or fight for it; it was a gift.”
God’s favor (a gift from God): The sun stood still for Joshua’s army to fight non-stop till their enemies were defeated. Favor restored crippled Mephibosheth, who thought he was a dead dog. Daniel spent the night in a den with hungry lions without being devoured. Favor took Esther from her low estate to share the throne in Persia and chose an obscure virgin, Mary, to be the mother of our Lord. (Joshua 10:12-14, 2 Samuel 9:1-8, Daniel 6:21-22, & Esther 2:5-17).
God’s favor is a mark of distinction, a covenant of exemption. When the odds are stacked against you, God’s favor will make your case different. It gives you what you cannot achieve by your strength and elevates you from the miry clay to sit with kings. Look around your life; will you acknowledge that all you have is a gift from God? Yes, God gave them to you.
David said, “We didn’t fight for this land; we didn’t work for it—it was a gift! You gave it, smiling as you gave it, delighting as you gave it.” I pray that you will receive gifts of favor from God in the coming weeks. You will testify like David that, “I didn’t fight, work, labor, lobby, etc., for it, it was a gift.” Expect various ‘gifts’ – friendship, contracts, job opportunities, babies, spouses, etc.
