“Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.” Esther 5:13
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
The ability to focus is a potent skill. The power to focus on something, a job or assignment, ignoring every distraction until it is done, is a virtue worth celebrating. However, focus can be just as powerful negatively as it is positively.
Haman was a great and favored man, but none of these ‘blessings’ meant anything to him because of Mordecai, the Jew who did not honor him. He was so focused on the one thing he did not have that he ignored the great things happening in his life.
‘Wealth, with many sons and a wife. Access to the king, and favor which led to promotion.’
Still, it all meant nothing to him because of Mordecai sitting at the gate.
His focus on the negative drove him to contention with God Himself because he wanted to destroy all those associated with Mordecai as well. It cost him his life and all the blessings he had, blessings despised because of bitterness. Mordecai’s approval would not have added to or diminished Haman’s status. Still, Haman let it distract his focus from what was really important.
Be content, and be thankful for your current status and the people around you who care and acknowledge the blessings of God in your life. Do not worry or grow bitter about those who do not value your worth or associate with you. It doesn’t matter who left; what matters is who is left. Please focus on that and let it encourage gratitude and joy.
It hurts that your boss, friends, or family may not have believed in your capacity to excel or make it in life. Let it go; instead, celebrate those whom God used to show you kindness along your journey. Remain thankful to God, lest you lose even what you have.
