“And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” ~ Matthew 15:27
REFERENCE:
This Canaanite woman demonstrated her great faith when she turned around and said, “Even dogs get to feast off the bread crumbs that fall from the table while the children eat,” although she was called a dog by Jesus and told that what she sought was bread for children. What faith!
I do not know anyone who will put up with the humiliation this woman was put through when trying to get help for her insanely sick child. Every attempt to ‘shake her off’ proved abortive. Jesus first ignored her. The disciples saw her as a nuisance and sought to send her away. Jesus said she was a dog and was not on His program. Yet, none of these shook her off.
Let us continue (from yesterday) to see the qualities that made her faith “Great Faith:”
a. Her faith was relentless. She would not allow the irritation of the disciples to wear her out or offend her. None of the setbacks she met drew her back. She resolved to break through all the obstacles she encountered when many people in her shoes would have sunk into silence or broken out into passion. She focused on the object of her faith, Jesus. She was unwavering in her conviction that what she asked for was possible.
b. She understood that God is not a respecter of faces or races but a respecter of faith. She knew she did not have to be an Israelite; God must respond whenever He sees faith. Therefore, she teaches us that faith will give you what you do not qualify for, make God bend the rules for you, and raise you from the position of dogs to that of children. It will earn you preferment and commendation from God and give you what you desire.
c. She understood that faith (the same as the power of God) is a measure of quality, not quantity. The ‘crumbs’ of the power of God received with mustard seed faith (with no iota of doubt), can produce the greatest of miracles and evict a legion of demons from her little girl. Demonic powers are easiest to deal with by the power of God, and even ‘crumbs’ of divine dominion can exorcise them.
After seeing and hearing her faith, Jesus had to give her what she sought, although she was not on His agenda for that day. Do not focus on the size of the challenge that confronts you or that of your faith; even little crumbs can do. Your focus should be on your faith, not having an iota of doubt. It is in the quality, not quantity.
