By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:8
REFERENCE
Being rooted in Christ gives you the assurance of sharing His glory in this life and in the hereafter. Paul said in Colossians 1:27, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” A life rooted in Christ increases in influence. The branches of a rooted tree are the symbol of the tree’s influence. They reach beyond the place of its planting, they are the reason why birds nest on the tree and people sit under its shade, and they are the bearers of its fruits. If that is not influence, tell me what it is!
Again, being rooted in Christ is the gateway to a life spent with God in eternity. Why? Because it is only rooted plants that eventually bear healthy fruits which the farmer harvests into his barnyard. It is the ‘rooted’ that will go with the Lord when He comes for the ‘harvest of the earth.’
It is said that a certain specie of the Chinese bamboo root can stay in the soil for up to 5 years before it starts to sprout. And once it sprouts out of the ground, the growth is exponential. It can grow 3 feet in height in 24hrs and reach a height of 90 feet in 45 days. The growth of the bamboo tells us that what goes on beneath the ground, the unseen process of the root system is much more important than what happens above the ground.
Unfortunately, today, many people are only so concerned about the outside and the inside is neglected. We try to use make-up to cover-up for a bad attitude, we use fancy clothes to dress-up our low morals, engage in too many activities to make up for lack of spirituality, charity works to secure eternity, and then make money to prove that we have the blessing. NO, these things won’t stand in the stead of the real substance. We can’t pursue fruits without roots.
God cannot do much with you until you have roots, until you are grown and can bear fruits. So, don’t be satisfied with where you are, strive to go from being rooted to being fruitful. Whatever fruit you will produce in life is already resident in you as a seedling – potential. Going through the process of planting, rooting, branching, growing, etc., is just to help bring it out. When the process is complete, the fruit will appear. I pray that you will be all that God meant for you to be, and you will be fruitful to the glory of God in Jesus’ name. Amen.
