“Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” ~ Luke 2:10
REFERENCE:
Out in the night, some tired shepherds stayed awake to keep watch over their sheep to protect them from rustlers. While bemoaning their station in life and the current affairs in Bethlehem, they were startled by a sudden burst of light. An emissary of heaven appeared, saying, “I bring you good tidings of great joy.” Tidings means news or information. This good tiding is about the birth of the Savior of the whole world, Jesus Christ, in Bethlehem. What news could be better?
What made the news or the tidings the angel brought good? It was news that would bring:
a. Great Joy to all People: The birth of Jesus Christ was the coming of joy. He came to lift the spirit of heaviness and give joy to those who mourn. It was news of joy because prisoners of sin and satan could become children of God with access to Him. The joy of freedom from all forms of addiction and mental afflictions was now available to man.
b. Peace on Earth: Jesus is the Prince of peace. Wars, wickedness, and oppression are products of an absence of inner peace in man. A man who finds peace with God will find peace with those around him. In Christ, there is peace for the confused, troubled, cheated, and abandoned. May every contention around you give way to peace, in Jesus’ name.
c. Goodwill to Mankind: This goodwill is kindness, generosity, and the favor of God to man. The enmity between God and man is over. Man is no longer guilty before God because of Adam’s sin; Jesus Christ came to meet the terms for peace with God. God showed us His unconditional love through the coming of the promised Savior.
We celebrate the birth of Christ because His birth heralds every good thing available to us by grace, things we cannot secure by our own merit: Mercy, Righteousness, Freedom, Joy, Love, Peace, Favor, Prosperity, Health, and all-round Goodness. It is called the ‘the-too-good-to-be-true’ Gospel because it sounds too good to be true. However, it is true nonetheless.
Any ill will, misfortune, hostility, animosity, or malice directed at you now are not of God and not from Jesus. I decree that goodwill will replace all ill will and misfortune in your life, in Jesus’ name. May the voice of joy and celebration permanently feature in your home, and may God cause you to find peace where all you know are trouble and turmoil. Joy to the world, the Lord has come. I bring glad tidings of great joy to you and your family. Merry Christmas!
